Dancing Hands

Dancing Hands

Aim: To be mindful of the breath and thoughts and try to let them go, relax and clear your head.

Level: 2
Duration: 1-5 min

Even those who don’t like to dance or think they’re not good at it will be able to dance the stress off with this activity.

Instructions:

  • Prepare a device (mobile phone, computer...) from which you will listen to the music you need for this activity. Get You're Gonna Be Okay (Extended Edition) by Ash Blackwood on your device. The song is available via the QR code below.
  • It would be good for you to sit down and try to do this activity in privacy. Find a place or way (put on headphones and close your eyes).
  • Sit comfortably and pay attention to your breathing. You can place your arms on your thighs and put them in such a way that your palms are face up.
  • Play the song You're Gonna Be Okay that you prepared earlier.
  • With the tip of your thumb, touch the tip of every other finger individually, simultaneously on both hands. You can choose the direction of movement: thumb - index finger, thumb - middle finger, thumb - ring finger, thumb - little finger or thumb - little finger, thumb - ring finger, thumb - middle finger, thumb - index finger.
IMPORTANT! The only important thing is to have a repeated pattern of movement.
  • Repeat the movement until the song ends or you feel relaxed. If you haven't relaxed after one listen, feel free to listen again and repeat the activity.

Advice:

For the people who can keep track of the beat, try to change the finger that thumb touches on every 2 beats in the song. While doing so, try to move your whole forearm with the rhythm of the song and take a deep breath by doing so.  If this song and/or rhythm doesn't suit your taste, you can choose one which you prefer more.
